Outland

D: Peter Hyams C: Sean Connery, Peter Boyle, Frances Sternhagen

Let’s face it: OUTLAND is HIGH NOON in Space, which at first sight may seem a bit redundant. After all, it doesn’t add much except the trimmings.

Still, it does have the masculinity going for it that Sean Connery is an expert at conveying. No hysterics or hollow virtue signaling, just – a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.

Follow the rules until something doesn’t feel right, then go against them. A man may agree that Bill Cosby at one point of his life was a sexual predator, but he won’t send an old blind man to prison.

A woman can love, or she can hate, but only a man has honor. And that’s exactly what Nazis mean, when they talk about “toxic” masculinity.

A man also cares about other people, but he doesn’t give a damn about what they think. Women may be better at running the daily business of the world, but it takes a man to change it, or save it.

In fact, that’s what a man’s gotta do.
